The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

As any prominent awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a clamor for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations don’t do it. But it is an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category that year
  • Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, however the design behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games in the world maintaining this status for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
